Xhaka tested positively on the coronavirus
His first game as a coach of the Swiss national team, the new Nati-Coach Murat Yakin had imagined differently. Around 20 minutes before the test game in Basel against Greece, the Association SFV had a bad news for the 46-year-old: Captain Granit Xhaka has been positively tested on the coronavirus.
At Xhaka symptoms were found in the morning of the game, whereupon he was immediately isolated in his room, says the Arsenal player. First, a quick test was still negatively failed, but the PCR test made for safety's sake delivered a positive result in the evening, explained the SFV. Thus, Xhaka is probably not available at the World Cup qualifier against European champion Italy on Sunday. On Thursday, however, another PCR test should bring clarity.
No contact with national team colleagues
Xhaka had not been in contact with his players throughout the day, it continues to say. Since all Swiss national players are either vaccinated or geneses, the cantonal doctor of the Canton of Baselland no further measures announced.
